Kirby Wayne Hicks

December 20, 1955 – June 9, 2024

We celebrate the life of Kirby Wayne Hicks of Wimberley, Texas, who went home to our Lord and Savior after a fierce but courageous battle with cancer. He touched many with his fun-loving nature, adventurous spirit, outdoorsman skills, leadership abilities, and most of all his Christian principles and moral compass that guided his relationships with family and friends throughout his life. He exemplified compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude, while blessing us with his ever contagious smile.

Kirby was born in Houston, Texas on December 20th, 1955 - the eldest son of Bob and JoAnn Hicks. Working in the oil industry, they lived in Kelsey-Bass, Kingsville, and downtown Houston, before finally settling in Tomball, Texas. Kirby attended Tomball High School, where he was active in track and field, band, and was student council president. During this time, he also met the love of his life, Julie.

Kirby wrote many letters to Julie during the four years he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. They married on June 16th, 1978, shortly after he graduated. He was a company commander in military intelligence in the Army, and retired with the rank of Captain after seven years. He then shifted gears to the private sector in the semi-conductor field working at Motorola and Applied Materials before forming a highly respected consulting company called Confoe together with partners Tom Lipscomb and Mike Fritsch.

Kirby and Julie were blessed with years of raising an amazing son Jason Robert who became Kirby’s best friend and adventure partner, and beautiful daughter Caitlin Nicole, who was precious to him as her protector, provider, and champion. In addition to his own kids, he was a father figure to many, including his niece Lacy, and countless other special friends over the years.

Kirby was a shining light to those around him, a loving radiance to his wife who he often made smile, a beacon of light for his children to follow, a light of love to his Christian brothers and sisters, and an illuminating light and fun-loving Poppa for his grandchildren to enjoy! He lived his life as one of the best humans God put on this earth from a place of duty, devotion, honor, humility, gratitude, and above all love. Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before others”

Julie, Jason, Caitlin and their families have pledged to continue their father’s legacy in moving forward with Christian core values, strong family foundations, and the adventurous fun spirit he provided them. Kirby marched through life guided by Jesus’ compass that led him on the true path while on earth and guided his steps to our Heavenly Father in eternal peace and glory.

Kirby Wayne Hicks was preceded in death by his father Robert Earl Hicks on August 2, 2009. He is survived by his mother Wanda Joann Hughes Hicks, his beloved wife of 46 years Julie Karen Dugan Hicks, his son Jason Robert Hicks (wife Daris Hicks), his daughter Caitlin Nicole Hicks Farr (husband Brandon Farr), sister Dona Lea Hicks (husband James), brother Frank Mark Hicks (wife Karen), Uncle Frankie Hughes (wife Debbie), and seven grandchildren Gracen Hicks, Everest Hicks, Landon Hicks, Quest Hicks, Jude Farr, Marshall Farr, and Hallie Farr.
