James D. "Jim" Rodgers Jr. age 54, of Painesville died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 following a lengthy illness. He was born March 11, 1956 in Canton, Ohio. Jim graduated valedictorian from Canton South High School in 1974 and was a 1978 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point NY.
Following a distinguished military career which afforded him the opportunity to live many years overseas and to travel the world. Jim returned to Ohio to be an engineer in Public Works in several counties and cities before retiring in 2008. Jim was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He is preceded in death by his father, James D. Sr.; son, James D. III and sister, Nancy Stewart. Jim is survived by his wife, and love of his life, Neva of Painesville; mother, Hazel of Canton; sisters; Jeannie (Larry) Hoover and Robin Riley both of Canton; twin brother, John D. (Laura) of Springboro, Ohio; brother-in-law, Walter M. Stopera of Cadiz, Ohio; step son, Jeremy (Michelle) Taylor of Bridgeport, Ohio and several lifelong friends from Canton and Painesville.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in the Sunset Hills Burial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Sunday, April 18 from 2 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Hospice of Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Rd., Mentor, Ohio 44060.
